Full House, from influential jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, was originally released on the Riverside label. Recorded live at Tsubo in Berkeley, California on June 25, 1962 the album also features Johnny Griffin (sax), Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Jimmy Cobb (drums).

This new edition of the album is released as part of the Original Jazz Classics Series on 180-gram vinyl pressed at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and a Stoughton Tip-On Jacket.  — (via Label)

The strength of the Full House session to my ear is actually the combination of Johnny Griffin and Wynton Kelly.  We have the best rhythm section in town (Wynton Kelly/Paul Chambers/Jimmy Cobb: Miles Davis Kind-of-Blue People). Griffin is in his fastest-tenor-in-the-west phase, and Wynton adds magnificent rhythmic propulsion to the modal canvas. We have spent many decades in a guitar-centric musical world, and the contrast between Montgomery’s solo and Johnny Griffin’s highlights the improvisational strength of the saxophone over the guitar (IMHO, as an ex-guitarist).

The live atmosphere is vibrant, recorded beautifully by Wally Heider. Though released in both mono and stereo in 1962, this recording belongs to stereo. The Craft edition instrument separation and positioning makes a great wide soundstage presence, which feels Live and puts you in the centre of Tsubo’s Coffee House.
