In the second album recorded in 1973 for Black Jazz, Walter Bishop Jr.'s 4th Cycle brought a new band and sound to the label. Described in the album's liner notes, the 4th Cycle wasn't necessarily the name of the band, rather "Bishop's composition and improvisational techniques based on the Cycle of 4ths and his various personal musical cycles as performer, student and teacher." On Keeper of My Soul, Bishop Jr. is joined by Ronnie Laws (flute and saxophone), Gerald Brown (bass) and Woody Murray (vibraphone) in a spiritual, electric output.

The VMP exclusive edition of Walter Bishop Jr.'s 4th Cycle's Keeper of My Soul is pressed on 1LP Opaque Dark Grey vinyl at Gotta Groove Records. The record will arrive in a single direct-to-board, foil stamped and hand numbered jacket and includes a two-page insert.
