About
— The Analog Vault // Essential Listening —
Curated by DJ and producer Tatsuo Sunaga, this mind-blowing compilation is an impressive appraisal of one of the most iconic Japanese jazz labels of all time - TBM aka Three Blind Mice. Cherry picking some of their finest recordings between 1972 and 1979, this excellent double LP spotlights the full spectrum of “Wa Jazz”, ranging from post-bop to jazz-funk to big band.
It is difficult to quantify just how much the vision and passion of TBM founder Takeshi Fujii has enriched the J-jazz cannon, but this 11-track survey of his august alumni is a fine place to start. Highlights include Teruo Nakamura Group’s "Derrick's Dance," Fumio Karashima Trio’s "Tones For Joan's Bones," Sunao Wada Quintet Plus 1’s "Sunset On The Street" (featuring Minoru Ikeno) and Isao Suzuki Sextet’s "Feel Like Makin' Love". — The Analog Vault

A compilation of tracks recorded for Three Blind Mice label in Japan between 1972 and 1979. The label was funded and established by passionate jazz fan, Takeshi Fujii. Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and Isao Suzuki were two of the leading figures who gained prominence by their works on the TBM label. Pressed and printed in Japan.
Tatsuo Sunaga (aka Sunaga T Experience): “The Three Bind Mice label is an essential representative of “Wa Jazz”. As a DJ and producer, I was given the opportunity to select music from the TBM catalog while unraveling the history of the label. The "young" and "hot" performances that symbolize the label are highly valued internationally, and they are the origin of the "new sensation of jazz", which is constantly updated by people all over the world. Dance floor has now broken the curse of the word "dance" and it is free. “Danceable jazz” has moved on to the next phase, and that is unexpectedly linked to this compilation album.”
