About

Originally released in 1970 as TBM-3, Debut introduced saxophonist Takao Uematsu, a rising talent who also played with the George Otsuka Group. His expressive tone, fiery spirit, and technical command—strongly influenced by Joe Henderson—set him apart from other Japanese players of his generation.

Recorded on November 19, 1970, the album features Uematsu leading a quartet and quintet lineup with George Otsuka (drums), Yoshio Suzuki (bass), Sadayasu Fujii (Fender piano), and Takashi Imai (trombone).

A cornerstone of early Three Blind Mice, Debut captures the adventurous energy of Japan’s emerging jazz scene. This 2025 vinyl-only reissue is pressed on 180g vinyl in Japan, remastered and cut by Bernie Grundman, and faithfully reproduces the original package with obi strip and insert. — (via Jazz Messengers)
