About
Nelson of the East’s Super Deception explores the strange beauty hidden in everyday sound. Drawing on M.C. Escher’s concept of creating the impossible without illusion, the release reshapes recognisable rhythmic structures into something quietly disorienting and deeply absorbing.
Heavy, tactile basslines and finely detailed percussion anchor the music, while fragments of texture and sampled sound are lifted from their original contexts and reassembled into new patterns. What begins as something familiar gradually folds in on itself, blurring distinctions between the physical and the imagined, the ancient and the futuristic.
The result is a fluid electronic landscape that rewards close listening as much as it invites movement, where rhythm becomes elastic and perception subtly shifts. Based in Berlin, Nelson of the East works at the intersection of experimental composition and club culture, informed by his practice as both a music educator and an experienced ghost producer. — (via Label)

If you're in search of hummable lil' pop ditties or crowd-pleasing Saturday night floor-fillers, it's fair to say that Super Deception might not be quite your bag. If, however, you're a fan of fractured beats, otherworldly FX, synth squawks, exotic instrumentation and an all-round air of dystopian menace, then this EP - whose title references the mindbending optical illusions of Dutch woodcut artist MC Escher - could be right up your street. It's all very out-there, off-kilter and experimental but if you're looking for something a little more familiar-sounding, start with the oscillating dubstep of 'Sangre Weisungo'. — (via Juno)
