Originally pressed in 1977 on Miami’s Alston label, Milton Wright’s Spaced has long been a cult treasure of modern soul and rare groove circles. The album followed his debut Friends and Buddies but took a bolder path, mixing socially conscious themes with jazz-funk instrumentation and gospel-tinged vocals. 

“She Can Have Anything She Wants” rides on supple bass and syncopated guitar, while “Let’s Take a Break” and “Leave Me Alone” showcase Wright’s sharp songwriting with understated grooves.

Milton Wright is a soul singer, songwriter, and producer who was active in the 1970s Miami soul scene. He is known for his smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics that captivated audiences during his career. With a musical style reminiscent of artists like Jon Lucien and Roy Ayers Ubiquity, Wright's music has stood the test of time.

Coming from a talented musical family, including siblings Betty Wright, Phillip Wright, Charles A. Wright, and Jeanette Wright, it's no surprise that Milton found success in the industry. His contributions to the Miami soul scene helped shape the sound of the era.

Released during the late 1970's Disco era, Milton Wright's sophomore long player has always stood out as a singular, innovative example of the deepest, rarest grooves known to underground Soul lovers all over the globe. This often overlooked body of work has found a whole new audience who revisited the man's work retrospectively, pushing the LP into the domain of "holy grail" status amongst Black music lovers and Funk fanatics.

Spaced has been at the top of the wants lists of serious music lovers for decades, often unattainable and commanding stellar collectors prices on-line, sometimes fetching amounts of upwards of £400. This unique LP could be perceived as being Wright's most personal work, tragically overshadowed by the burgeoning successes of his then label mates on Miami's Alston Records imprint. The sheer craftsmanship and songwriting prowess on show is undeniable, as is the top level musicianship and production, sounding ridiculously fresh almost some 40 years later.
