About

Masayoshi Takanaka, born in Tokyo in 1953, began his professional career in 1971 by playing guitar and bass guitar in the prog rock band Flied Egg with Hiro Tsunoda and the late Shigeru Narumo. In 1972, he joined The Sadistic Mika Band as a guitarist.

With its release during the heyday of jazz fusion, Takanaka delivers a dynamic blend of intricate melodies, funky rhythms, and virtuosic guitar work. His self-titled album, Takanaka, originally released in 1977 and now reissued in 2024, is a stellar showcase of his mastery in fusion and jazz-funk. Throughout the album, Takanaka shows his ability to seamlessly blend elements of jazz, funk and rock, creating a cohesive and captivating album. With its timeless sound and infectious energy, this album continues to delight jazz and funk enthusiasts alike, solidifying Masayoshi Takanaka's status as a pioneering figure in the genre. — (via Juno)
