About

Imada Masaru, the Japanese jazz pianist and composer, led his loyal trio right from the genesis point of his towering discography: the 1970 album-suite Maki. Fresh rhythms. Gorgeous melodies. A powerful yet full touch that pleasantly stirs the emotions of the listener. The origins of the great pianist Masaru Imada are here. Masaru Imada has been active as a professional since the 1950s and now has a career spanning 70 years. He has been at the forefront of music from hard bop to fusion, and has released over 30 titles as a leader.

Credited under the name Imada Masaru Trio +1, for reasons not entirely obvious, Maki draws together a triomphante troupe - Masahiko Ozu, Takashi Mizuhashi and Masaru Imada - for a five-track suite of intricate night flight jazz. The album boasts a mix of standards and originals, like the dynamic "On Green Dolphin Street", the tender "Maki", dedicated to his daughter, and the vibrant "Sea Horse". Released as part of Victor's 'Japanese Jazz' series, this record is a true gem. — via Label
