About

- The Analog Vault // Essential Listening -

In the pantheon of Japanese jazz, few command more respect than Masahiko Togashi and Isao Suzuki. The former is a percussionist who was pivotal in the development of free jazz in his home country in between the 1960s and 1970s. The latter is an acoustic bassist who has made a legendary mark as one of the godfathers of Nipponese jazz. It only makes sense that a team up between these luminaries would produce an improvisational masterwork.

Originally released in 1979 via Paddle Wheel, and reissued in 2023 for Cinedelic Records’ Orient Series, A Day of the Sun sees the two maestros fusing their avant-garde and fusion leanings into a series of spiritually transcendent, free form compositions that feel both hypnotic and meditative. - The Analog Vault

A masterpiece of creative jazz full of poetry. Masahiko Togashi, a unique percussionist and inspired composer, and Isao Suzuki, Japan's number one jazz bassist, are not only exceptionally talented jazz musicians, but also rare and excellent musicians who transcend the sensibilities and wisdom of more conventional jazz. - Obi strip.
