Having worked his way up as a sideman to bebop giants such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy
Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Art Blakey, and Max Roach - trumpeter Kenny Dorham
was the perennial musician’s musician. It was not up till the release of this 1960 album with

Dorham’s debut as bandleader and featuring his own composition "Lotus Blossom", that the
man was able to step out of the shadows to take his overdue spotlight. In fact, Quiet Kenny is
notable as being the only Dorham album with no other horn player. It gave the exceptional
trumpeter, and his august personnel, plenty of space to exhibit his elegance and purposeful
movement. Quiet Kenny was much like the man himself - cool, subtle, and unostentatious. An
album of pure class that enunciates softly through ballads and the blues.
