If where a musician comes from inevitably influences their music, that's doubly the case with John Talabot's instalment of !K7's renowned DJ-Kicks mix series. "I wanted to do something special", explains the Barcelona based DJ. "I thought that it would be good if people could discover what my influences are, where I've come from, the people that I admire and tracks that have been important to me over the last ten years, plus some tracks on my label that have never been released." The result is a mix steeped in Talabot's home town, the clubs he went to growing up, the music he heard, the sound he's gone on to craft with his own productions and take to the world. - !K7 records

“Talabot's DJ-Kicks is centered on lustrous atmospheres and fleecy textures, but that's not to say it's best heard in your pajamas. Certain tracks accelerate the pulse, most notably in a late run that opens with the twilight-house tones of Max Mohr's "Old Song," then moves through the midnight stomp of Motor City Drum Ensembles "Escape to Nowhere" and the steamy house of Wraetlic's "Streets" remix. Cue, then, the album's final stretch, which starts with the Kompakt glow of "Silkron" and courses through post-'00s fare from Talabot and friends, namely the warbled, bug-zap funk of "Sideral" (by Talaboman, his collaboration with Axel Boman) and Pional's ambient closer "It's All Over (Locked Groove Rendition)."
