Recluse is an exploration of the self, inspired by Intriguant’s discovery of empowerment in solitude, whether it be at work, in the studio or in his daily life. While meditative, Recluse also confronts grief and frustration. The passing of a friend is grappled with in closing track “You’re Here, You’re Near (feat. KATØ)”, and a struggle with internal inhibition is examined in “Don’t Get Me Wrong (feat. OmarKENOBI)”. The first single “Chemistry” explores the confluence of human beings in postmodern relationships.

The album is summarised by Intriguant as “a sonic exploration of one’s need to embrace solitude through progressive experimental beats and sounds.” The precision intended to feel like countless shards of glass pouring through from a just-battered mirror, the experience akin to submerging yourself in an atmospheric tub of water to permeate through your aural senses.

Mastered by Conrad Magabo at Cosmic Zoo in Los Angeles - a studio that’s previously housed the likes of artists Run The Jewels, Kamasi Washington, and Thundercat to name a few - the record will be pressed onto vinyl in limited quantity, and will be distributed regionally. About Intriguant:

Intriguant (real name Louis Quek) is a Singapore-based electronic music producer and DJ.

Inspired by the human perception of environments, he mixed together textural sounds with syncopated beats, the concept - aligning the physical with the spiritual. The result was his debut EP Ellipse, released on the SYNDICATE label in 2014.

Ellipse found Intriguant acclaim with critics spanning Israel, Slovakia, and the US. For the title track, he collaborated with labelmate Brandon Tay to produce a visually entrancing music video that was subsequently featured on The Fader (US).

His music is a collection of downtempo and fragile beats of a wide spectrum of influences and genres that include electronica, experimental beat, soul and Hip Hop. He’s shared the decks with luminaries such as Thomas Schumacher (GER), Teebs, Flying Lotus (Brainfeeder, USA), Homeboy Sandman (Stones Throw Records, USA) and Om Unit (Metalheadz, UK). He’s also played at festivals like Laneway Festival Singapore 2016 and SingJazz Festival 2016, to name a few.
