About
Hitomi “Penny” Tohyama’s legendary record Sexy Robot received an incredible amount of accolades in ‘80s Japan. Her fifth release was first released in 1983, and quickly set into motion the tide of Beacon Sound which would come later. The album incorporated the sound of New York in the 80s and remains an important part of Japanese AOR. Known as Penny and born in Okinawa, Japan. She debuted from Nippon Columbia in 1981 with the single "So Many Times" and the album Just Call Me Penny. Released 13 original albums including Next Door and Sexy Robot. In 1988, she has performed live with Eric Gale, Richard Tee, Randy Jackson, Mike Baird, Junji Yamagishi, and the Water Sisters. In recent years, the city pop/future funk side of her music has been reevaluated globally, and in 2023 she sang and wrote lyrics for Night Tempo's album.
The title track from the album receives the new edit treatments by Muro and DJ Dimitri From Paris and this EP includes edited versions of "Sexy Robot", "Wanna Kiss" and "Tuxedo Connection". "Sexy Robot" and "Wanna Kiss" were released only on 7' in 2015 and are now highly-priced edited versions by Muro, while "Tuxedo Connection" was newly edited by disco/house legend DJ Dimitri From Paris. Side B also contains an off-vocal version of the original version (both which are now available as the first commercialized versions). The tight rhythm by Drumulator and groovy synth bass by Hiroyuki Namba stimulates new musical sensibility. — via Label
