About

Demon Days Live from the Apollo Theater is a vinyl release of a Gorillaz live performance of their 2005 album, Demon Days. The performance took place on 6 April 2006 at The Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City. It was released as a Record Store Day exclusive release in April 2025 in celebration of the album's 20th anniversary. The release was limited to 6500 copies in a gatefold sleeve, with the recording being divided among 2 LPs. This is the second release of a Demon Days Live performance, the first being the Demon Days Live At The Manchester Opera House DVD in 2006. — (via Gorillaz Wiki)

If your favorite instrument is the vocal performances, you are going to love this.

The first two tracks start a bit slow. Even tough it was cool to hear the choir singing these songs live, the minimalistic instrumentation was a bit underwhelming.

From that point on, the energy on stage changes drastically. Bringing out the kids and Bootie Brown for "Dirty Harry" is peak entertaining and, in a way, it reminded me of the chorus in the opening track of "The College Dropout". "Feel Good Inc." features a De La Soul appearance that was just too much fun and somehow surpasses the vibes brought to the studio version.

Grand instrumentation is not left behind too. "O Green World" and "Every Planet We Reach Is Dead" feature extended versions where the group goes full steam ahead to close out the tracks. The second mentioned gets a beautiful piano solo too. In this regard, "Don't Get Lost In Heaven" is another standout song, where the string instruments shine and take the song up a notch.

To conclude, "Demon Days", is a coronation moment. The choir vocal performances and the string instruments match and create an immaculate and perfect vibe to closeout the album moment. Iconic.

PS: this performance also features two extra tracks. The first being Hong Kong, a personal favorite from the later released "D-Sides" featuring Chen Wei-Man on the zither and the second being one of the very first singles from the group "Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo)". — (via Album Of The Year)
