About
Stone Flower is the fifth album by Antônio Carlos Jobim. It was recorded in 1970 by Rudy Van Gelder at Van Gelder Studios and produced by Creed Taylor and originally released on CTI Records.
One of the great popular music composers of the 20th Century, Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994), emerged from Brazil's burgeoning bossa nova movement of the early 1960s.
The quietly powerful Stone Flower, recorded in 1970, an undervalued album in his glittering discography, contains nine mostly overlooked gems like the jazz waltz, "Children's Games," "Choro", "Andorinha" and the dramatic title track. With perfect-timing arrangements by fellow Brazilian Eumir Deodato, the set features Jobim on piano (acoustic and electric), acoustic guitar, and, occasionally, his trademark husky, half-whispered vocals. – Wiki
“Jobim's Stone Flower is quite simply one of his most quietly stunning works -- and certainly the high point of his time at Columbia... Stone Flower is simply brilliant, a velvety, late-night snapshot of Jobim at his peak." – AllMusic
