New Reinterpretation Of Steve Reich's 'Six Pianos' Pressed On Wax

To mark Steve Reich's 80th birthday, six German pianists have recorded a new version of his masterpiece Six Pianos and have released it on vinyl through FILM Recordings.

The recording features a mix of modern classical and electronic musicians such as Hauschka, Paul Frick and Daniel Brandt (of Brandt Brauer Frick), Gregor Schwellenbach, Erol Sarp (of Grandbrothers) and John Kameel Farah.

Performed originally at Acht Brucken Festival 2016 in Cologne's Philharmonic Hall, the piece was recorded and reinterpreted by the six pianists in their own studios before being mixed together by Jan Brauer in Berlin.

On the B-side of the vinyl is Terry Riley’s Keyboard Study #1, reinterpreted by Schwellenbach and Lukas Vogel.
