Despite its title, the sophomore studio album by German electronic music producer Jan Jelinek
is not a jazz record. Instead, it is a touchstone release within the electronic sub-genres of
minimal IDM, ambient, and glitch, with the album title paying homage to the samples used to
produce the album being entirely sourced from jazz records. This 2001 LP brims with subtle
textures, nervy drones and gentle clicks, pops and whirrs that feel like Morse code for the
emotional spaces between dread and pleasure. Though it may not sound like it, the ingredients
of Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records were indeed all sourced from jazz records, just atomized into a
deconstructed dish of glitch and noise. As one progresses through the album’s undulating cloud
of shifting static and abstract beats, one will find Jelinek’s cerebral approach trapping you in an
otherworldly dimension that audiophiles can scarcely dream of.
