About
Let It All Out is an album by Jazz singer/pianist/songwriter Nina Simone. Released in 1966, it was her fifth album with Philips Records.
“A mix of studio and live recordings, Let It All Out sees Simone wholly mastering the art of perform-ing in both situations, with a mix of songs that nod to her past (a version of ‘Little Girl Blue’ featured on her debut album of the same name) and her then recent Civil Rights activity (‘The Ballad Of Hollis Brown’ was released by Bob Dylan in 1964). The album’s penultimate track, the a cappella ‘Images’, was taken from the Carnegie Hall shows that made up 1964’s In Concert album.” – Universal
“Let It All Out is one of Nina Simone's more adult pop-oriented mid-'60s albums, with renditions of tunes by Duke Ellington ("Mood Indigo"), Billie Holiday ("Don't Explain"), Irving Berlin ("This Year's Kisses"), and Rodgers & Hart ("Little Girl Blue").” – AllMusic
“Her pure jazz keyboard work on tracks like “Mood Indigo” makes her one of the few pianists to legitimately rival Duke Ellington’s combination of clarity and melodic complexity.” – Pitchfork
