He was and remains one of the finest examples of a jazz musician’s success story. He was celebrated by a host of followers, many of whom were unaware of his true value. The velvety voice of Nat King Cole, a voice which has also been associated with silk and honey, has made us overlook the fact that he was one of the few authentic giants of the jazz piano. In this respect, he was remarkably influential, particularly when it came to Oscar Peterson.
