About

- TAV // Essential Listening -

Whether he was assembling the foundations of cool jazz or elevating modal to heights, Miles
Davis never failed to keep the jazz world on its toes. But even within his boundary pushing
discography, Bitches Brew stands apart. Ever the maverick, Davis’ 1970 record was an
improvisational landmark that smashed the barrier between jazz and rock & roll. Informed by
counterculture figures like Jimi Hendrix - Bitches Brew was coloured by guitar, bass, drums,
wind instruments, keyboards and horns. The result was a psychedelic frenzy of incredible scope
and breadth, with epic-length tracks like Pharaoh's "Dance" and “Spanish Key” that ebb and
flow through tranquillity and aggression. Truly a blueprint for the wave of jazz fusion to come.
