About

That Stubborn Kinda Fellow is the second studio album by American soul musician Marvin Gaye, released in 1962 by Tamla Records. It established Gaye as one of the label’s first successful acts in it’s early days by producing his first string of successful singles, ‘Stubborn Kind of Fellow’, ‘Hitch Hike’ and ‘Pride and Joy’.

Majority of the songs were written or co-written by Gaye, often with producer Mickey Stevenson and other songwriters including George Gordy, Barrett Strong and Norman Whitfield. Background vocals were provided by a then fledgling group called ‘The Vandellas’, formerly known as The Del-Phis, with instrumental support from the label’s in-house band soon to be known as ‘The Funk Brothers’.

Gaye would go on to popularise and solid soul’s musical status, which was then a budding genre, by first incorporating elements of it into this album along with elements from the more popular R&B, blues and doo-wop genres of the time. – Wiki
