kenji-kawai-ghost-in-the-shell-original-soundtrack
Kenji Kawai – Ghost In The Shell (Original Soundtrack)

This haunting score ties in beautifully with the spirit of the Japanese animated film Ghost in the Shell, based on the books from Shirow Masamune. Composer Kenji Kawai serves up a chilled platter of deep drums, gongs, shakers, bells, female vocals, shimmering keyboards, and vaporous ambience. A somber and powerful rhythm dominates most of these tracks, but percussionist Yuhki Sugawara maintains emotional content rather than mere drum exercises, as he pounds, taps, palms, and skips across a wide array of instruments. At times this album is bleak and sparse, but always engaging. Gongs float upward from the depths like huge jellyfish, female choirs run chills down the spine, and keyboards breathe softly in the distance. — (via AllMusic)

—

Each track has a different genre, ranging from psychedelic to jazz, from traditional Japanese music to blues. The piece that opens the film is "The Ballade Of Puppets: Flowers Grieve And Fall," a traditional Japanese music piece, spectacular because it is sung by a choir of 135 people accompanied by the sound of Japanese drums. To make it even more mysterious and impactful, it was recorded under a cave to enhance the echo effect. Then it transitions to two Jazz pieces, featuring one of the most famous jazz artists in Japan: Kimiko Itoh. "River of Crystals" showcases all of Kimiko's talent, while "Follow me," the track accompanying the end credits of the film, is a very melancholic but equally beautiful song. "Attack The Wakabayashi" is a very engaging instrumental piece, one of those used in films to accompany action scenes, and Kenji Kawai did a fantastic job pairing it with the film's climax. "The Doll House I" and "The Doll House II" are two very slow pieces, accompanied by a keyboard that calls to mind the movements of a doll, which is one of the theories the film is based on. – (via Debaser)

Vinyl Tracklist
A1 M01 謡I - Making Of Cyborg
A2 M02 Ghosthack (本編未使用)
A3 EXM Puppetmaster
A4 M04 Virtual Crime
A5 M05 謠 II - Ghost City
B1 M06 Access
B2 M07 Nightstalker
B3 M08 Floating Museum
B4 M09 Ghostdive
B5 M10 謠 III - Reincarnation

↓
Label: WRWTFWW
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue
Released: 2017
Genre: Electronic, Stage & Screen
Style: Soundtrack, Abstract, Ambient, Anison

File under: Soundtracks
⦿
