How to Be a Human Being is the second studio album by English indie rock group Glass Animals. It was released on 26 August 2016 by Wolf Tone and Caroline International in Europe, and Harvest Records in the United States.
Following the release of their debut studio album Zaba, Glass Animals began an aggressive tour which saw them play over 140 concerts in Europe, Australia, the United States and Mexico. They appeared at Glastonbury, Falls Music Festival and Southbound in 2014, Coachella, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, Firefly, Glastonbury again, Lollapalooza, Osheaga and Reading and Leads in 2015, and the Forecastle Festival in 2016. - Wiki
“How To Be A Human Being is rife with ZABA-isms – immense detail, tiny sample fragments, gloopy textures – and “Mama's Gun” closer to the band's misty roots than their dazzling future, but the jagged hip-hop of “Cane Shuga”, the freakout riffs in “Take A Slice”, and “Pork Soda”'s spiraling mayhem all prove that Glass Animals have plenty in the chamber to keep us guessing.” – The Line of Best Fit
“The clearest departure from Zaba on this album is, as the title might suggest, the humanity. Where their first album displayed a diversity of sound, How To Be a Human Being expands from eccentric instrumental choices to the eccentricities of life itself. Many songs conjure unique characters and place them in their element. There’s the basement-dwelling loner in “Life Itself”, the loveably lazy stoner girlfriend in “Season 2 Episode 3”, and the murderous wife in “Mama’s Gun”. Vocalist Dave Bayley slips seamlessly into these characters, fully immersing the listener by offering details like “a cookie as a coaster” and “codeine coca cola.” While Bayley narrates, each instrument bolsters the scene, adding dimension and teasing out thematic elements.” – Consequence of Sound
