Until the Quiet Comes is the fourth studio album by American electronic producer Flying Lotus, re-leased on September 26, 2012, by Warp Records. After releasing his 2010 album Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus continued his creative partnership with bassist Thundercat and worked with him on music that led to the album. For Until the Quiet Comes, he drew on African percussion and psychedelic musical influences, human-subconscious and dream world concepts, and different mixing techniques and dynamics.

He recorded for two years at his home in Los Angeles primarily using an Ableton Live sequencer along with other instruments and software, and recorded with guest vocalists including Erykah Badu, Thom Yorke, Laura Darlington, and Niki Randa.

An electronic jazz album, Until the Quiet Comes features free jazz elements, varying musical tones, contracting scale, and shifts in feel. Its songs are sequenced together and characterized by ghostly vocal production, irregular drum beats, pulsating percussive textures, trembling basslines, trilled synthesizers, and fluctuating samples.

The album has a journey-like concept and dreamy musical narrative, which Flying Lotus conceived through astral projection and felt could be interpreted uniquely by listeners. Music writers interpret it as a musical accompaniment to dreams, as well as emotional introspection by Flying Lotus. – Wiki

“Following the shattering Cosmogramma, Until the Quiet Comes is disarming at first. It sometimes feels like an experiment in how much can be stripped away while still sounding like Flying Lotus, but the reduction offers a new perspective into what Ellison is about. Los Angeles and Cosmogramma brought to mind the L.A. that thrives on acceleration. The energy here is just as strong, but it's con-centrated into a smaller space. So while this might be Flying Lotus' most accessible record, it's less about being pleasant and more about deep focus. Each of these 18 tracks tends to introduce one or two emotional or musical elements and meditate on them for a brief time before easing back into si-lence. Quiet is a series of suggestions or clues and it always feels just out of reach, but that leaves a lot of room for the listener. The surface is a gorgeous invitation to return and see if you can figure out what it all means.” – Pitchfork
