About
Danny Tucker was born in Jamaica in 1954 and grew up there with a deep interest in music, like many Jamaican youths in the late 1960s and early ‘70s. As a teen, he had auditioned at Kingston’s venerable Federal Records Studio, famous for producing hits by Ernest Ranglin, Derrick Harriott, Ken Lazarus and Ernie Smith. Tucker’s shyness, however, held him back from successfully taking that first step to stardom. Tucker moved to Boston in August of 1973. In June 1978, Bob Marley & the Wailers played at the Music Inn in Lenox, up in the Massachusetts Berkshires. Tucker had traveled hours to attend the concert, and Marley’s crackling electricity on stage convinced him that he had to make reggae the center of his own life. By this time, local reggae bands had begun to sprout up and Danny joined one of them; Zion Initation, a rising ensemble with a dub-heavy roots sound.
Danny would eventually go solo and record the Changes LP in 1985. It was recorded at the legendary Harry J's Recording Studio in Jamaica and backed by Lloyd Parks & We The People Band. This LP includes other tracks not on our Boston reggae compilation as well as dub versions of "Changes" and "Father's Land." - Cultures of Soul
