About
A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995–1997 is the debut album by Bright Eyes. The album is the first commercial release by Conor Oberst and features his vocals and guitar. This album is the 19th release of Saddle Creek Records. - Wiki
Originally released on CD only in 1998, A Collection Of Songs Written And Recorded 1995-1997 is the debut album from Bright Eyes.
The release features 20-songs written and recorded between 1995-1997 on a reel-to-reel four track by the young Conor Oberst (former singer/guitarist for Commander Venus). The songs vary between guitars, synthesizers, acoustic and programmed drums. Thought provoking, yet subtle. Sad, yet uplifting. Depressingly honest. All characteristics he's employed to brilliant effect on subsequent albums.
180g 2LP reissue housed in gatefold jacket plus entire album on CD. – Press Release
“The birth of Bright Eyes and the only release with just Oberst. When he penned the material for this 20-track debut, he was in high school, and though his age comes through clearly even in comparison to Letting Off the Happiness and the production is abysmal, the strength of the material is hard to miss. His willingness to indulge and then overindulge in emotion is admirable and even experimental when tracks like “Saturday As Usual” seem to break down entirely before being pulled back together with a resolute and dynamic “f*cked.” Even now, the complexity of the songs is pleasantly surprising.” – Under The Radar
