After distinguishing himself as a sideman for the likes of Chet Baker, Cannonball Adderley and Miles Davis - venerated jazz pianist Bill Evans went on to become a leader himself, recruiting bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian to his cause. In 1961, this legendary trio recorded two seminal live albums during a single historic session - Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby - the latter of which becoming the unit’s final effort due to LaFaro’s untimely death. Fittingly, Waltz for Debby showcased the trio at their most inspired, led by Evans’ groundbreaking approach to harmony and improvisation. Featuring some of the intensely emotional performances of their oeuvre, renditions of tracks like "My Foolish Heart" and "Detour Ahead" represent the ultimate expression of this trio’s impressive interplay.
