Ambivalence Avenue is a studio album by English folk/electronica musician Bibio, originally released in 2009 by Warp records.

“Warp is pleased to reissue two of Bibio's most celebrated albums, Fi and Ambivalence Avenue. Both albums signify turning points in the career of this consistently growing artist. Producer Stephen Wil-kinson is a self-taught musician from an area in central England often referred to as the Black Coun-try. His love for sound and noise led him to the University of London and the study of Sonic Arts where he discovered experimental electronic acts such as Aphex Twin, Autechre, and most importantly Boards Of Canada.

His own musical identity was christened Bibio, in honor of a fly his father had insisted on using dur-ing the fishing trips to Wales that were so influential in establishing his love of the sounds of nature. Focusing on location recording using cassettes, a half-broken sampler, dictaphones, and experimental ways of affecting sounds, Bibio has crafted a unequalled style that is as subtle as it is powerful.

Ambivalence Avenue marked Bibio's Warp debut in 2009 and it remains one of the loveliest records in his and the label's catalog. The 12-track set finds room for everything from lo-fi noise to chiming gui-tars to '70s folk to funk and all the way to the euphoric, sun kissed album standout "Lovers Carvings." “While Ambivalence Avenue is an excellent album by any measure, Bibio deserves extra credit for ven-turing outside of his established comfort zone. He began his musical career trying to emulate Steve Reich and Boards of Canada on no-fi equipment. He was fascinated by the physicality of media-- of degrading tape and malfunctioning recording gear. And he was interested in the natural world, letting the sounds of streams and rainshowers stand in for his own personality. Having depleted these ideas over the course of three solid albums, he's put them aside to do nearly the opposite. Ambivalence Av-enue moves the focus from the flaws of media to their capacity for precision, and takes fewer cues from nature than from the urban sounds-- including Dilla and Madlib-- that Bibio admits discovering in recent years.
