- The Analog Vault // Essential Listening -

Beyond becoming a cult sensation within England’s Northern soul movement, Alice Clark’s phenomenal eponymous album largely went unnoticed in America and beyond during its initial 1972 release. However, the decades since have been far kinder, with critics and crate diggers belatedly proclaiming this gem to be one of the greatest soul records ever made.

Not much is known of how Mainstream Records' Bob Shad first found this gospel belter, but Clark has got to be one the legendary producer’s most inspired discoveries. Even in an era of soul superstars, she was clearly a generational talent. Her powerfully emotive vocals are wonderfully showcased here on brilliant renditions of songs such as Bobby Hepps’ “Don't You Care,” Leon Carr's “It Takes Too Long to Learn to Live Alone” and Juanita Fleming's “Never Did I Stop Loving You.” - The Analog Vault
