Sun Ra And His Astro Intergalactic Infinity Arkestra – Discipline 27-II | 2017 Reissue
$38.00
“A bona fide Sun Ra classic, 'Discipline 27-11' was recorded by Impulse! producer Ed Michel in October 1972 at Streeterville Studios in Chicago and involved the largest Arkestra line-up Sun Ra had ever taken into a studio session. The recordings spawned two albums, the celebrated 'Space Is The Place' and 'Discipline 27-11' which would remain its rather mysterious occult twin. This official reissue was remastered from original tapes and was released for Record Store Day 2017.” – Bandcamp
“Discipline 27-II, a companion album to the better known Space Is the Place and culled from the same 1972 sessions. It’s inviting to imagine an unearthly pedagogical tome, bound in some elaborate non-terrestrial fabric, containing the score to the title piece and its earlier numerical brethren. Ra’s predilection for stringency and orderliness came in handy, particularly when commanding the larger variations of his ensemble like the eighteen-piece group employed here.”– Dusted Magazine

Sun Ra And His Intergalactic Research Arkestra – Planets Of Life Or Death: Amiens '73
$38.00
“A previously unreleased Sun Ra concert from Amiens, France in 1973. At times intense, ritualistic and visceral, the recording features the glistening ‘Lights On A Satellite’ featuring the spiritual tenor sax of John Gilmore and a rare instrumental version of ‘Love In Outer Space.” – Bandcamp
“Planets of Life or Death: Amiens '73 is a genuine, unaltered picture that is definitely worth a listen, both if you already know what to expect or if this is your sonic baptism with Sun Ra’s music. Whatever your starting point, this record will not go unnoticed. It embodies cosmic jazz as seen by a visionary and the end result is a beautifully confused, layered little gem.” – Pop Matters
“On Side 1, the session kicks off with the theatrical overture, ‘Enlightenment’ as Sun Ra and vocalist June Tyson invite the audience to “be of our space world.” Ra then moves into a rare instrumental version of ‘Love In Outer Space,’ transforming the perennial Arkestra classic into a raw, ritualistic experience.
Side 2 of the album opens with the glistening ‘Lights On A Satellite’ led by the spiritual tenor sax of John Gilmore. Closing track, the epic, chaotic, anxious ‘Discipline 27-II / What Planet Is This’ features Sun Ra and June Tyson take a thinly veiled psychedelic swipe at life on earth: “If this is a planet of life, why do people die here?” – Strut Records
